World Day of Prayer
World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women of many faith traditions who come together for an annual observance of a common day of prayer on the first Friday of March. Each year a different country serves as the writer for the WDP worship service, interpreting the Bible in their own context, and lifting up the challenges and issues experienced by women and children across the globe.
This year the writers are from the Cook Islands, a group of 15 islands found in the Pacific Ocean, located near New Zealand and Australia. The theme is “I Made You Wonderful,” based on Psalm 139:14 which reminds us that God is our Creator and that He is the one who has knit us together and wonderfully made us.
Note: Please bring gently used books for elementary aged children for Dr. Cora P. Dunkley, C.U.R.E.D., Inc. President & Founder. Also, bring gently used shoes for OASIS Opportunities, who works with the school system to provide shoes for children K-12. NO high heels please.

World Community Day was established in 1943, born out of discussions among denominational presidents and executive secretaries who envisioned a dedicated day for church women to study and promote peace. Recognizing the importance of unity, it was decided that this effort would be most impactful through a single day of united focus, even as denominations produced their own materials on the evolving global order.

Over the years, World Community Day has expanded its emphasis from peace to include justice, a crucial partner in creating harmony. The traditional boundaries between “domestic” and “foreign” concerns have been intentionally blurred, emphasizing the global nature of the challenges we face and the interconnectedness of our world.

On November 8, 2024, the women of Tampa’s Church Women United gathered at Christ Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lutz, Florida, for a heartwarming World Community Day celebration. The event featured a Fall Harvest theme, highlighted by a beautifully adorned harvest table filled with an array of fruits and vegetables—a vivid reminder of God’s abundant blessings and the gratitude we owe.

Our diverse membership, representing churches across the Tampa Bay area, was joined by special guests, including Sharon Koelsch, our Area 3 Chair, who shared in our fellowship and celebration. We were also privileged to welcome Eva DeHart, a representative of “From Haiti with Love,” a family-run organization dedicated to addressing critical needs in Haiti.

In a spirit of generosity and unity, Church Women United presented Eva with a donation to support the impactful work of her organization.

The day was filled with thanksgiving, fellowship, and a renewed commitment to fostering peace, justice, and support for those in need.
